SCOTLAND

ABOUT SCOTLAND
For my time-piece lovers and Outlander fanatics, I’m sure you’ll sympathize with my infatuation with Scotland. Even if you are not, Scotland truly is one of the most serene places on the planet. With a calming landscape and rolling green hills, this country absolutely stole my heart. During my time in Scotland, I stayed in Edinburgh and traveled the Highlands with a tour group and had the opportunity to see Loch Ness (yes, like the folklore!), Edinburgh Castle, and enjoy the vistas at Calton Hill. I truly could not recommend a visit to Scotland more.

Travel Tips - Scotland
Lodging
During my time in Edinburgh, I stayed at an unbelievably convenient hostel called Code Pod – The Court. This hostel was within walking distance from the central train station, even though keep in mind it is a HUFF up endless stairs to get most places in Edinburgh. Truly, you cannot Like many other hostels I have stayed at, this one was great because you get your own little pod with a curtain which is great for privacy reasons. Of course, this hostel is great for budget travel but is not intended for people looking for luxury travel by any means. Overall, I would recommend this hostel.
Transportation
To travel to Scotland, I took a train from a Manchester train station right into downtown Edinburgh. For this train, I recommend booking through Rome2Rio or Omio. In and around Edinburgh, I mostly just walked to be completely honest. Truthfully, this is absolutely on par with the cliché of walking tens of thousands of steps in Europe. I have known several travelers who rented a car while visiting which sounds incredible, but I have not gotten the chance to do it myself! If you are like me and not quite feeling up to renting a car, booking day trips such as to the Scottish Highlands is a great way to see more of this handsome country.
Activities
I absolutely adored most of the things that I did Scotland, but here are some of my favorites:
-
Visit the Scottish Highlands on a day tour
-
Explore the various Calton Hill overlooks
-
Stroll the winding streets of Edinburgh
