ABOUT MALAYSIA

I had the incredible opportunity to visit Malaysia for the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA) conference to share some of my research! Although I spent most of my time engaging with this conference, I did have the chance to see some of what Kuala-Lumpur had to offer! This country is a beautiful mix of Muslim, Chinese, and Indian culture, and quickly stole my heart as one of my favorite countries in Asia.

Check out some of my favorite adventures from Malaysia!

Travel Tips - Malaysia

Lodging

For my stay in Malaysia, I had to stay close to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center as I was initially in town for the International Association of Applied Linguistics conference. For my time in Malaysia, I decided to book via Expedia at Novotel Kuala Lumpur City Center Hotel. I greatly enjoyed my stay here and have no outstanding complaints! Some of the top highlights for me were the central location, quality of the rooms and service, and cost for a four star stay! All of the staff was incredibly kind and helpful, and I found the atmosphere to be calm and professional. I would recommend this stay for your trip to Kuala Lumpur.

Transportation

For my travels from the United States, I had to take a whopping 16.5-hour flight from San Francisco to Singapore before flying into the city of Kuala Lumpur. For booking your flight, I recommend using Google Flights on incognito mode. Provided that the airport is incredibly far away from the city center (just under an hour), I would recommend booking a taxi via Grab which totals to about $15 each way. Grab is very similar to our Uber in the United States, and I found it very easy to navigate! From there, you can decide whether or not you would like to use public transportation in and around the city or simply walk!

Activities

There is no shortage of incredible things to do in Malaysia but here are some of our favorites:
