ABOUT GUATEMALA

Guatemala presents some of the most beautiful scenery and vibrant culture I’ve ever visited. Explore Hobbitenango, walk under the famous golden arch in Antigua, and have the best coffee you’ve ever tasted! You will not be disappointed with a trip to this historical district.

Travel Tips - Guatemala

Considering traveling to Guatemala? I say send it! I had the opportunity to travel to Antigua to volunteer through International Volunteers HQ (IVHQ). For my project, I taught English to children via Maximo Nivel. The program also offers Spanish courses for those of you interested in language learning! In volunteering through this program, I saved hundreds of dollars in lodging, food, and overall experience! Maximo Nivel was an incredible host agency and provided various opportunities for excursions…including tattoo recommendations! Traveling with IVHQ also means that they took care of ALL the transportation for me — from being picked up (and dropped off) at the airport, participating in excursions, you name it!

As always, be safe and aware! If I were you, I would stay away from Guatemala City. Happy travels!

Lodging

To get around the city of Antigua, you can take“chicken busses” or tuk tuks! I actually really enjoyed riding around in the tuk tuks, it was a great experience.
