ABOUT GERMANY
A country filled with a rich and complex history, Germany is one of European favorites for countless reasons. I spent my time in the Bavarian region in the city of Munich for an extended weekend during my study abroad and returned several years later. The language, food, beers, dances and songs all exceeded my expectations on Germanic culture. The night life in Munich is lively and welcoming, as were the people. I made many friends in Germany from all over Europe. I am eager to return to see what the other regions and districts look like in the northern territories.
Travel Tips - Germany
Lodging
Both of the times I traveled to Munich, I booked with Hostel World at Wombat’s City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof. For my first stay, I was alone, and the second time I went with my friend, Sara. Something special about this hostel is that it really is a community-based stay. Within the first night or two, you end up meeting people to hit the clubs or beerhouses with! The stays are adequate (on par with the typical expectations of a hostel) and the location is PHENOMENAL! Located right next to the train station, you can easily commute from city to city or the airport. Overall, I would recommend staying here for budget travelers looking to make some friends!
Transportation
As with all the navigation around Europe, planes, trains, and buses are a great way to get around. I booked most of my trains with Omio, which is a fantastic platform for European transportation. Eurail is also a great decision, too! Skyscanner is a great application for finding cheap flights, as well as Google Flights. Within the city, Uber is a great platform for navigation.
Activities
There is no shortage of incredible things to do in Germany, but here are some of my favorites:
-
Visit the infamous Neuschwanstein Castle
-
Share a drink at Hofbräuhaus München
-
Stroll through Marienplatz
